Listen to Lourdes now:

A voice deep with feeling and music resplendent with talent

"A warm voice and well crafted guitar playing combine to make this more than a folk album. Perez touches the intellect and the heart, the spirit and the senses in a collection of songs that can seduce and stir it up! The recording captures the timbre of the voice, one of the few albums you can hear the ache of the words. One or two live tracks come as a surprise because the consistency of performance and production create an intimate experience for the listener throughout the entire record, as if she is sitting and playing on the bed next to you or in your favorite chair.

A wonderful album. The only folk thing is that Lourdes is a lover of people and ideas. Think of many great women singer/songwriters - Lourdes is among them."

A powerhouse of a voice at the forefront of the Puerto rican cause

"Lourdes Perez stands on the vanguard of excellence, with passion she delivers the insides of a Puerto Rican Soul. Her Music is compelling and dynamic, she can easily be compared to any number of modern day greats. Breathing life into a number of songs, she is an island who remains true to a dying art form. A modern day poet, living and breathing the struggles of an island fighting to retain its History and identity." JOHNNY RIVERA

para Mercedes

Tu corazón, y ese último latido
dijo adiós prematuro a los presentes
yo voy a recordar tu siempre ardiente
tonada desafiante del olvido

Yo voy a recordar que siempre has sido
y serás cual antorcha permanente
luna llena y estrella fluorescente

"With her latest release, Este Filo, it is clear that Lourdes Perez lives up to her reputation as one of the great Latin American singer/songwriters. ...beautifully crafted words, spilling out like little gems. The songs can be urgent and dramatic, raging against violence and injustice. They can be comforting and nostalgic, memories of loved ones and promises kept. Whatever mood the music creates, it never feels forced. It seems to pour out of her so naturally, effortlessly. It draws you in and you find yourself raging, remembering, laughing and loving along with her."

- Angie Manzano - Off Our Backs

I have seen Lourdes Perez live in concert and have all 6 of her CDs. She is one of those independent artists who likes it that way, but who you wish that the whole world knew about. Singing only in her native Spanish with a voice that gives you chills, she will move your soul without you ever knowing what hit you. If you are deep into it and read the lyrics, you find out why you feel the intention and the power. Stays in your mind and changes you somehow.

FROM LOURDES:
SONG FOR MY FATHER

Décimas a mi padre

Raúl Pérez González
2/5/27-12/20/07
Por: Lourdes Pérez Cruz

Hoy vengo con los cantores
Con tus hijos y tus hijas
A traerte una valija
De recuerdos y de flores
No vengo a cantar dolores
Vengo a celebrar tus sueños
Rostro octogenario, isleño
Ser brillante entre los seres
Mis saludos, Raúl Pérez
Diamante puertorriqueño

No han podido doblegarte
Ni torcer tu ideología
La libertad es tu guía
La verdad es tu estandarte
Yo aprendí a memorizarte
Desde mis ojos pequeños
Si parece que me adueño
Soy eco de mis hermanos
Mi padre tiene en sus manos
Un oro puertorriqueño

Corazón azucarado
Compasión al semejante
Sin titubear ni un instante
A los demás tu te has dado
Y esto que yo he declarado
Lo declaran con empeño
Tus amigos y reseño
En estos humildes loores
Que es Raúl Pérez, señores
Un roble Puertorriqueño

Un dos de mayo naciste
Y naciste cual de pie
Porque la patria y la fe
Tu filosofía hiciste
La historia de galas viste
Y un Dios triunfante y risueño
Por tan perfecto diseño
Y a mi que honor me ha toca’o
Ser hija de un amola’o
Machete puertorriqueño
Ser hija de un amola’o
Machete puertorriqueño

Highly Recommended: Lourdes' youngest sister Miriam Perez releases new CD

A grandfather who was a multi-instrumentalist and poet died before they were born, but he obviously left his musical inclinations to Lourdes and her 8 sisters and brothers. Her sister Miriam Perez (the youngest vocalist in the family), has released her second CD with her group Somos Tres.

The new CD, Somos Tres le canta a Sylvia Rexach y Sylvio Rodriguez features Miriam’s elegant contralto and the crystalline guitar of Jose Flores and is a tribute to two of Puerto Rico and Cuba's most beloved songwriters. Somos Tres' debut CD, Entre Sillas featured songs by various Puerto Rican composers, including Lourdes Perez and Cali Rivera, among others. Both CDs are available
